I am SO happy. Kyle and I FINALLY bought a new dining table and I just LOVE IT! Our old dining table is really OLD it says ‘1929’ on the bottom. We got it when we first got married, or maybe a little before the wedding, when Kyle’s parents said we could have it. I believe Kyle’s sister Liesl and some room mates used it when they were going to school before we got it and when we got it, it was just sitting in storage. But hey we got a table and it didn’t cost us anything, aside from the gas and time that it took to go get it from the storage unit. And up until now, Kyle and I have never really bought any furniture, aside from beds (we’ve bought several beds), our video cabinets, and bookcases.
We’ve truly been so blessed. Our couch set was given to us, by a friend of mine who didn’t need them anymore. Our living room tables, just happened to show up on my parent’s porch and they passed them along to us. Our fish tank happens to be the fish tank that my parents had when I was just a kid. Our entertainment centers (we have two) came from Kyle’s parent’s and from Nana). Ok we have bought 3 dressers, and we have a dresser and desk set that was Kyle’s since from when he was in elementary school or maybe junior high? I don’t know but the other 2 dressers we have were Nana’s. We didn’t even buy our refrigerators, one was a wedding present from Kyle’s employer in Fullerton, and the other was a hand me down from Nana, when she moved in with us. SO buying something as big as a dining table is a HUGE step for us. And the pieces literally just fell into place. We weren’t even planning on buying a table right now. I really disliked our old table. It’s old, and ugly, the finish is coming off it only has three chairs left, it’s lopsided and when one of the kids spill you just have to hope you aren’t sitting at the lowest corner or it’s all going to end up in your lap. I’ve been wanting a new table for a really long time. Two years ago we almost bought a new table. Kyle saw one at Big Lots that he kind of liked and was a decent price, but before actually deciding on that one he wanted me to see it. He had to buy it in order for the store to hold it for us, so I could see it. When he brought me back to see it I went in to look at it while he sat with the kids in the car. I didn’t really like that table. It also had a couple of dents in the top if I remember correctly, so Kyle got our money back and we decided to look around a bit. We went to RC Willey in Orem and walked around looking at the tables and when I saw the table I liked, I was DONE shopping. I sat down at the table and Kyle continued to walk around looking at other tables. He asked me if I wanted to see anything else, or if I was just going to sit there. I said “THIS is the table I like”. He convinced me to walk down to where they keep the tables that are on clearance and we looked and we talked about buying one of those, just to have a bigger, newer table. But I just didn’t want one of those.
Fast forward to now….I don’t even know why but I started looking at dining tables online. I found ONE that I would even consider, the others were just too ugly, or WAY too fancy. But I wasn’t sure that I even liked the chairs that went with the one table I would consider. Something inside me just burned to go over to RC Willey RIGHT NOW to see what they had, secretly hoping that they would still have the table I fell in love with two years ago. Wondering what I would do if they didn’t….. So I loaded all the kids up in the van and told Kyle to meet me there. We went in and walked around a bit and they still had it! So we wrote down the prices of the table and the chairs and left. I was beaming, just knowing that they still had the table. So then I wentΒ home and pulled up our bank accounts online to see if we had enough money to pull it off, where could I pull the money from……I knew Kyle wouldn’t agree to buying the table if we didn’t already have the money. So after looking at the bank accounts, and talking with Kyle we decided to use the money that we had saved in our home improvement account, since buying a new table would be an improvement to our home. π And then Friday of that same week, Kyle went back and bought the table and he ended up buying a total of 12 chairs to go with it (since if we squish we can fit 12 chairs around it), and the salesman said he would call the next week to tell us when it would be delivered. Well the guy never called, Kyle called early in the week to find out what’s going on, and they said that this particular store didn’t have that table in stock and they actually had to go to a store in Nevada to get one. Then Kyle called again on Friday to find out what was going on since they still hadn’t called us, but they had taken the money from our bank, so we felt we had a right to know where the table is! They said it was in Salt Lake City, so Kyle asked when it was going to be delivered. Their response was ‘What? We didn’t know you wanted it delivered.” So Kyle said “I PAID for delivery why wouldn’t I want it delivered?” So the lady went to go find out what they could do about it, and came back saying that it would be delivered on Tuesday and they gave a $35 gift card for the whole misunderstanding.
Tuesday IT CAME!!!! So now we have a new dining room. π

I love the corners on this table, they aren’t sharp, but they aren’t just a boring round either:
Pretty, but not TOO fancy. π
I have to admit that we just moved most of the mess that was in the corner. We did throw away maybe three garbage bags worth of stuff though. But most of it was just moved to somewhere else to be dealt with later, so the living room looks like a bomb exploded in there. And the desk is in our room now, for lack of a better place to put it. But now the dining room just makes me smile. π Someday the rest of the house will get to that point too, I hope.
I agree, this table is wonderful!!! Good job picking it out! It is a much bigger improvement from the old dining table with the broken chairs, isn’t it? I did have that dining table before you, when Amy and I lived in Riverside. I’m glad it worked for your family for so long.
Yay! It looks great! Now You, Kyle and all of the kids will fit comfortably around the table(not just the bigger seats in the chairs but seating for 8!!) This was well over due for you guys! Congrats on the great “new addition” to the family LOL
