Cousins are HERE!

Jenny, her family and Tiffany were planning on driving up on Monday to visit, but they had to postpone and drive up Tuesday instead. Tuesday there were warnings everywhere about a huge arctic blizzard that was headed our way and should hit about 6pm Tuesday evening and work it’s way down through the entire state of Utah. So I called Jenny to warn her about it, and told them to drive carefully and keep me posted on where they are, and that I would tell them when the storm hit my area. Kyle emailed his second job about working from home Tuesday night so there would be no chance of him getting stuck somewhere in the storm. (February 13 2008, there was a really bad storm and Kyle hadn’t left work early so it took him EIGHT HOURS to drive home that night, normally it’s just a 45-60 minute drive.) They told him that he couldn’t work from home for security reasons, but that they would allow him to have the night off without any negative attendance penalties kicking in. YAY! So I only had to worry about Jenny and her family being on the road.

Once they got into Utah they started texting us to let us know where they were, and what the weather conditions on the road were and they kept asking what the weather was like where we are. I would look out the window and I never saw any snow falling. It was really windy, and that made it really cold, but I didn’t see the snow on the lawn getting higher and the only snow I saw flying around in the sky was the stuff that was blowing off our roofs, definitely not a blizzard amount of snow. The next morning there still wasn’t much new snow on the ground, so I don’t know why the media made such a HUGE deal about this massive storm that was heading our way. At least Kyle got the night off out of it. 🙂

Most of that snow was there before the ‘storm’. The kids really had a fun time playing in it though.

Today Debby came over too, to visit with everybody. We hung out for awhile then Jenny, Debby, Tiffany and I went to do some minor shopping. Jenny needed to pick up a few things, and I needed to go get some new decoration for our new tree. So we left Tom with the 7 kids and we took off for a bit. We were only gone for a couple of hours then we came back to the house and I got some dinner on the table. Then Tom and Jeff left to go on a bit of a trip to Wyoming. And us girls just hung out with the kids for awhile before getting them into bed. Jenny took lots of cute pictures of the kids since they were so happy to be with their cousins and have everybody else here too.

Dinah found Debby’s big fuzzy boots and was clomping around the house in them for a bit.

Aw, so cute! Like I said they were SO happy to be able to spend some time together. I love Debby’s crazy over excited smile in the background too. 🙂

All seven of my parent’s grandchildren.

After Dinah tired of playing with Debby’s boots she found Jenny’s sunglasses and decided to wear those for awhile. She’s just so cute. 🙂

Then we put the kids to bed and I went to work making pies!

The Cheese Monster AGAIN?!?!?!

OK I think the cheese monster (aka Dinah) went a little too far this time!

A brand new 8 oz tub of cream cheese spread all over the cabinet! Not to mention that she was eating it by the handfuls, so it was all over her face and hands too! Then the dog proceeded to lick up whatever she had left in the tub (which really wasn’t much) so I couldn’t even save that!

Dinah’s 3rd Birthday!

Dinah is three years old already! It seems only yesterday she hadn’t been born yet, and Kyle and I were trying to decide when he would quit the second job. We were planning on him quitting before the baby was born, so that he would be home with me more when we had the baby, and afterward. Well here we are 3 years later and he is STILL working two jobs, and we’re not quite ready for him to quit yet (even if we are always discussing when it should happen).

Dinah was oblivious to the fact that it was almost her birthday so Kyle and I, and her brothers and sister, kept reminding her that it was almost her birthday. That got her excited. Then Tuesday was her birthday and so we were all telling her “happy birthday” and I kept asking her how old she was. She would say “Two, NO FREE!” Then she would try to hold up three fingers which was quite entertaining, because we had to keep showing her how many fingers is 3.

Another favorite game that I have with Dinah is to ask her who she is. I like to ask her to see if she knows, to see what she says, and to see if she knows her full name. So I would ask, “Who are you?” and she said “Dinah!” So I said “Dinah WHO?” and she answered “Dinah Befany”, so then I would ask “Dinah Bethany WHO?” She used to say “Dinah Befany Andelin” but this week since her birthday has been the main focus, she would say “Dinah Befany it’s my birfday!” or “Dinah Befany where’s my present!”

Saturday I was gone at the retreat and we were planning on having a little party for her Saturday evening, but the cake wasn’t ready and Debby hadn’t come like she said she would so we postponed the party for tonight. Kyle made the cake yesterday since I wasn’t home and he went ahead and made the frosting today to finish it. Dinah requested chocolate cake, but she kept saying that she didn’t want frosting. “Don’t want frosting”, she would say. We had to tell her that the frosting helps keep the candles in the cake, so I offered chocolate frosting, and Kyle offered peanut butter frosting, and the peanut butter frosting won….

I love how big her eyes get!

She was really excited to get to open her present.

Thank you Grandpa Tom and Grandma Kathy for the cute outfit!

Guess Who?

Looking through the pictures on the camera, it appears that some of my children were trying their hand at photography. However, they left evidence to show WHO had been touching the camera!

Exhibit A:

CIMG3648

Brown eyes…

And looking at the pictures of Jeremy’s stuffed animals taken right before this one, I’m going to have to say that it’s Jeremy!

Exhibit B:

CIMG3653

Now at first I thought Ethan was the culprit here. Just because the picture is of my paused game of Jr Pacman on my computer. However, look at the shape of the little photographer’s heads shadow on my screen…..Hm doesn’t look like Ethan….Well this picture taken RIGHT after the one of the computer screen gives it away!

Yup TYRA!

Exhibit C:

Blue eyes…

Fuzzy white hair….

Totally Dinah!!!!

The Cheese Monster Strikes Again!

Dinah has a nick name of “The Cheese Monster”. The reason we sometimes call her this is that first thing in the morning (usually on the weekends) she will head straight for the fridge and help herself to a stick of string cheese. SOMETIMES she goes back for a second or a third…..Well today she came down the hall to show me that she had something yellow in her mouth. I stared at it for a few seconds then realized it was cheese. Dang it, we don’t have any sticks of cheese right now, which means she got it from the block of cheese that was sitting on the counter (I had forgotten to put it away after making myself a late lunch). So I went out to 1 put the cheese away and to 2 see how Dinah had gotten the chunk that she had, off the block, and this is what I saw:

Yes that is a block of cheese with two LARGE bites taken right out of it. Sigh. And that is why we sometimes call her the cheese monster!
