New Dress / The Comic Stylings of Ethan and Tyra

Some of the ward’s ladies came over today to make jam, and one of them (Sister Wozab) was working on making dresses.  She explained she was creating dresses for some local girls who were putting on a play about Dr Suess, and she described some of the dresses she’s made.  Currently, she was working on a “Cindy-Lou Who” dress, red with some colourful frills.  She offered to let Tyra try the dress on, and Tyra was really thrilled to put it on.  After she showed it off, Sister Wozab told Tyra that she could have it!  Tyra wore it for the rest of the evening.

I took the kids to PetSmart to purchase some new fish and other supplies, and in the car, Tyra and Ethan were having a discussion about the dress.  Tyra had a hard time remembering the whole name of the dress, at first.

Tyra: It’s my ‘Cindy-Loua’ dress.
Ethan (correcting her): Who.
Tyra: Me.
Ethan: No, it’s ‘Who.’
Tyra: It’s mine. It’s my ‘Cindy-Loua’ dress.
Ethan: No, Tyra, it’s ‘Cindy-Lou Who.’
Tyra: That’s what I said!

I couldn’t help but feel that Tyra’s dress was perfect for playing First Base.

Ethan’s first fillings

I am so sad that Ethan has 3 cavities. It looks like he might have inherited my and Kyle’s bad teeth. 🙁 That or he doesn’t brush well enough, or maybe even a little of both. So he had a dentist appointment today with a pediatric denstist to get 2 of the 3 cavities filled. The third cavity is on the other side of his mouth and we go back next month to take care of that one. But Ethan did a lot better at the dentist than I expected. He usually doesn’t cooperate when the dentist is just trying to look at or clean his teeth, let alone do work on them. So I was really concerned that Ethan was just going to be uncooperative and cranky towards the dentist (especially since the pediatric denstist isn’t our normal dentist). But Kyle joined us at the appointment and sat in the room with Ethan, and Kyle says he did really well. 🙂

Ethan’s 1st School Project

Well Ethan has been assigned his first school project. He was to make a Velociraptor dinosaur model. At first we made up some salt dough for him to use, but the recipe that was included on the instructions seemed too flimsy, and would NOT produce a standing dinosaur. So we looked up a recipe for salt dough online and it called for an extra cup of salt. So we tried that out and Ethan made up a dinosaur. He used some popsicle sticks as a ‘skeleton’ for the arms and legs so they wouldn’t break as easily.

We left the dino on the kitchen table to dry (didn’t think about making up on a cookie sheet or something like that till after he made it). But it seemed to crumble more than it dried. As it dried it just seemed to be falling apart. Ethan was getting really frustrated during the making of the dinosaur, and then this whole falling apart business…..Ethan was almost in tears saying ‘a lego dinosaur would have been easier’. So Kyle went and bought some legos and came home from work early so Ethan could make a lego dinosaur:

Kyle made the yellow one as an example for Ethan, and Ethan made the rainbow dinosaur. The little boy sitting on the dinosaur is supposed to be Ethan, he wanted to ride his Velociraptor.

Ethan’s 6th birthday part 3

Ethan had a birthday party this morning with some of his friends from church and school. He invited 6 and four came, which is a pretty good turnout. He had fun showing his friends his transformers and they all had fun making train tracks. Then they spent some time coloring some pictures that Kyle printed out for them. Then they played a little bit of Lego Star Wars, passing the controller around so everyone got to play. For lunch we served bagel bites, and apple slices, tropical chex mix and oreo cookies, along with peach drink and fruit punch kool-aid. Then it was the time they had all been waiting for….the pinata! We went downstairs and set it up and gave Ethan the first chance at busting it. Then Brayden, Jacob, Jeremy, Tyra, and Amy had a turn and we are very glad we saved Ammon for last because he took two whacks at it and knocked the legs right off and candy sprayed everywhere. The kids all had so much fun. Parents were showing up to pick up their kiddos and so we hurried with the present opening and passed the cupcakes out as the kids left. It was a good party. Ethan really enjoyed having his friends over.CIMG1628

After all the other kids left I put Dinah back in the high chair and gave her a cupcake, she really liked trying to bite the top off:CIMG1633
