Last day of school

Today was the last day of school! I MADE IT! I could not wait for school to end. Now I can breath a sigh of relief and enjoy having my kids home for the summer, and try to get them back in the routine of doing chores! I know that’s mean, but it’s for their own good.

As usual there were only a couple of hours of school today. They were out by 10:30, which seems like such a waste of a school day to me. Also, as usual, I walked down to the school to get pictures of the kids with their teachers.

Ethan’s teacher was Mrs Cunningham.

Tyra’s teacher was Mrs Nelson.

Jeremy’s teacher was Mrs Peterson.

For some reason, my camera wasn’t working properly and took some pretty blurry pictures. So these are the best of what I got, and it makes me sad that they didn’t turn out as nice as I would have liked them to. Later I figured out that one of the kids messed with the camera settings and I had to figure out how to change it back.

Pinewood Derby

We left Tiffany’s reception and drove all night long to try to get home in time for Tyra’s pinewood derby with the activity days girls and Ethan’s cub scout derby right after. Grandpa had helped them make their cars yesterday after the wedding and before the reception.

Unfortunately we got home too late for Tyra’s, but we were just in time for Ethan’s. Kyle and Ethan put their uniforms on, and Kyle helped put the wheels on Ethan’s car and the two of them went to the church.

The other kids were quite tired and we didn’t have enough time to get them all dressed to all go to the church, so I stayed home with them. I was sad to miss the derby this year, I’ve never missed it before. 🙁 From Kyle’s reports of the race, it sounds like Ethan’s car did a better job this year than it did last year (it actually made it past the finish line every time this year!), and he placed third in the Webelos den. I am REALLY annoyed that they didn’t announce the overall ranking, which means I have no idea how he did compared with the rest of the pack. I feel like if this is going to be a pack activity they should just rank the boys according to how they did compared to the rest of the pack, not just their fellow den members, but that is just my opinion.

Ethan’s Birthday

We are late, but we finally celebrated Ethan’s 10th birthday. The kids were all passing around a stomach bug the week of his birthday and rather than have them vomit cake, we decided to wait until everyone was through it before celebrating.

I can never decide what cake to make, so I always let the birthday person choose what cake they would like me to make. Ethan chose a checkerboard strawberry and lemon cake this year.

Ethan is excited to be 10. Turning 10 means that he has graduated from Bear cubs and is now in the Webelos den, which is the den that Kyle is the leader for.

Conversations of Christmas

I was in the kitchen shaping snow globe cookies when I hear this conversation in the living room:

Tyra: Guess what Dinah, we saw Santa at the school today.
Jeremy: He wasn’t the real Santa.
Tyra: Ya huh!
Jeremy: No. His beard…was…PLAS-TIC!

Later as I was shaping more cookies I heard this other conversation between my boys:

Jeremy: You know what the candy cane presents?
Ethan: Represents? A “J” for Jesus, and the shepherds crook.
Jeremy: HOW DID YOU KNOW!?!?
Ethan: Because I’m smart.
Jeremy: Do you know what the lights on the tree represent?
Ethan: The light of Christ.
Jeremy: No! They represent the stars!
Ethan: No. They represent the light of Christ.

I love that my children can believe in Santa Claus, but that they also know that Christmas is all about celebrating the birth of our Savior.

Art to Remember

In the past couple of years the school has been sending home stuff for a fundraiser called “Art to Remember” where you child can draw a picture, and you can send it in and have it turned into a whole bunch of things like put the picture on a mug or a t-shirt or something else like that. Well I don’t ever order anything. My kids always beg me to let them do it, but I’m a big meany and don’t.

Today Ethan came home with a drawing that he had made of a dragon, in the form of a magnet. He explained that his teacher had an art contest and his drawing won so she got him the magnet of his picture as his prize.

In case you can’t tell, that is a picture of the magnet on my fridge. 🙂
