Someone raided the first aid kit today, and went a little bandaid happy:
For the record, she doesn’t have any owies. She just wanted to wear all the bandaids.
A blog about Kyle and Rebecca's family
Kyle and I both have scout related callings for church. He had taken the boys with him to cub scouts this evening, but I needed to be at the church for my calling right when cub scouts ended. We’ve had to do this a lot lately so that both of us can be there to do our jobs, and rather than leave the girls and Adam at home to wait for him to come back we decided that I should load them up and drive to the church. I go inside to take care of my scout business, Kyle comes out with the boys to take the van full of kids home, and that leaves me with the purple car to get home on my own when I’m done.
Tonight was another one of those nights, only when I got in the van to go, Lydia speaks out, “Mommy! Go that way! They church is that way! That way Mommy!” I asked “Which way?” and I looked back at her and she was pointing up the street. So I turned on the van and pulled out into the street in that direction. Then she yells “Watch out for kids!” because the neighborhood kids really like to play out in the street. It was just really funny.
Grandpa called to wish Lydia a happy birthday today, and Kyle decided to have him call back using his ipad so they could see each other. Lydia loved being able to see Grandpa and Grandma and talk to them. She kept walking around with the ipad, so they probably got to see the whole house during the call. The other kids liked showing stuff off too.
I made her a strawberry rainbow cake. I had seen a picture in an article online of a rainbow cake, and thought “that would be so EASY!” So I decided that that was what I was going to do for her birthday. It was easy and she LOVED it.
She was so excited that today was her birthday. She kept saying “I blow out my happy birthday!” Referring to blowing out the candles on her cake. She also loves her new Minnie Mouse jammies that we got her a couple of days ago. 🙂
I’ve been feeling it’s about time for a car seat upgrade. The car seats that we have had Chloe and Lydia in are at least 9 or 10 years old. Chloe is old enough and heavy enough for a booster seat now and Adam is out of leg room sitting rear facing and he is rather squished in the infant seat. So we went out today and bought Chloe a booster seat, and bought new car seats for Adam and Lydia.
Adam was really excited to check out the new seat while it was in the house and we were adjusting straps.
Here is the arrangement of the van with the old car seats. In case you can’t tell, that’s two forward facing seats, with the infant seat in between on the front row.
Here’s a view of the van with all the new seats.
The kids were all so excited to sit in their new seats that we decided to have movie night in the car. We put on “Emperors New Groove” and went for a drive, so they could ride in their new car seats.
Kyle’s mom had to go in for some surgery because they found some lumps in her breast that needed investigating, so we get to take care of her dogs while she was in for that and while she is recovering. Her dogs, Darcy and Ziva took a little bit to warm up to us, but they seem to be enjoying their stay here so far. They are licky dogs though, anytime someone is sitting on the couch they will cuddle up next to them and just start licking their arm or their hand or something. One night after we put the kids to bed, we heard Lydia just start laughing and then she said “The doggy’s tasting me!” sure enough, Ziva was sitting there on her bed just licking her. 😛
Chewy and the cat were unsure what to think of our house guests, and watched them cautiously. Chewy seemed to hide more than usual to stay away from them I guess.
Ziva, on the other hand, wasn’t sure what to think of Jango, Jango being so much bigger than she is.
We had been told that Darcy and Ziva tend to fight a lot, but I didn’t see them fight once. In fact they seemed to like to cuddle with each other.
They got to spend a lot of time playing outside with Jango, which is a huge contrast from what they do at home. At home they are usually kept in a small pen in the kitchen, and are only let out when Karen feels like supervising them, and they rarely ever go outside. I just didn’t want them inside during meal times. The kids tend to be messy eaters and all kinds of things end up on the floor. I didn’t want the dogs cleaning that up and end up being sick from it. It was funny though, anytime Kyle or I were in the kitchen and we opened a wrapper or a package of something Darcy came RUNNING. If we were eating she would just stare at us, watching the food go to our mouths and back. Ziva didn’t seem to care if we happened to be in the kitchen, but Darcy made sure to be right there waiting for any possible handouts.
