April Fools

Jeremy asked me today “Was yesterday Easter?” I am thinking that we were so busy and he was having so much fun that he forgot that it really was just yesterday. I answered him and said “Yes, and today is April fools.” I hear Tyra exclaim “YES!” and then Dinah asked me “What’s April fools?” I looked at her and asked “How did your hair get all red?” And she flipped out and tried to look at it, so I said “April Fools!” So now the kids are going around the table trying to fool each other.

Tyra: Ethan, there is something in your ear!
Ethan: Ya, it’s called WAX!

So she tried again:
Tyra: Ethan, there is something in your nose!
Ethan: Ya, boogers!

Dinah: Mommy! How is your hair turning pink?
Me: My hair isn’t turning pink.

Tyra: Jeremy your shirt is changing colors.
Jeremy: No it’s not!

I told them they should stop trying to come up with random jokes and actually try to come up with something that sounds real, but they just weren’t getting it. So I got their attention, and said:

GUYS! Instead of nap time today…we are….going…to…have a popcorn party! Most of them yelled “Yay!!!” Then I yelled “APRIL FOOLS NOW GO LAY DOWN!” I think Ethan saw that one coming because he was laughing at everyone that believed me. Like I would give up nap time so the kids can throw popcorn all over the house for me to clean up. Ya right! 😛

Easter Fun

The Easter Bunny decided to change things up this year and left the Easter baskets for this morning. Nobody was expecting to find Easter baskets on the table this morning so it was a nice surprise.

At 10:00 am there was a neighborhood egg hunt. Our neighbors collected eggs from everyone that wanted to participate and then they hid them. One side of the street was designed for little kids with eggs being tossed all over the lawns. The other side of the street was intended for the older kids and the eggs were actually hidden and had to be found.

I wasn’t able to get any pictures of Ethan and Tyra, considering they were on the other side of the street and ran much farther ahead in search of eggs.

At 10:30 am we had our annual girl scout troop egg hunt to attend. I sent Kyle and the younger kids ahead, while I waited for Ethan and Tyra to finish finding their alloted amount of eggs at the neighborhood hunt. So the three of us ended up being a few minutes late to the park. We started out with passing out awards and then turned the girls and their siblings loose to go find the eggs that Amy had spread over the lawn.

After all of that excitement, we came home and I began boiling eggs to color. Kyle took most of the kids, leaving me with Adam, to go to the airport to pick up Liesl. While they were gone, I finished boiling eggs, and made cheesecakes to take to the family dinner tonight. I also got to take some pictures of my cute little Adam. He was playing on the floor and caught sight of an Easter basket and went to play with it.

While Kyle was out getting Liesl he also stopped off and got my new phone. Kyle decided that it was time to upgrade our phones again, and he got his a few days ago.

Liesl got to hang out with us for awhile while we colored the Easter eggs, and then we got to drive into town to take her to Granny’s house. We finished the day off with going to Olive Garden for dinner and then it was time for bed.

The Easter Bunny decided that Easter baskets yesterday wasn’t enough and came and hid eggs in the house tonight. Maybe next year he will plan things out a little better and drop off baskets and hide eggs all in the same visit. 😛

Tonight we went to Granny’s house for the family dinner, and so we got to spend more time with Liesl and we got to spend some time with the cousins too.

I’m a member of the site LinkedIn, which is much like Facebook for business. I have a number of former colleagues on there, and occasionally get messages from recruiters looking for talent. Back in February, one such situation came up, where a recruiter said their security company was looking to open a center in Utah, and they noticed my experience at Symantec and wanted me to interview at the company.

As I never turn down chances to interview, I agreed and spoke to them over the phone. I must have impressed them, as they wanted to set up multiple interviews with me and different people within the company. However, these were all over the phone, as they were all out of Utah. After two phone interviews with different techs in the company, they asked if I’d be able to come in for an interview when they were in Utah. The dates didn’t work out, since we were in California at the time, so we did another phone interview with the vice president over the support group.

They ended up offering me a job, right at the time I started at Venafi. The timing on it couldn’t be worse, I felt, as I had just started at Venafi and I had no reason to leave. Even though the position paid more, I felt I reached a point where I didn’t need the extra money, so I mentioned it to my Venafi vice president, who tried to help me see evenly what the difference was between going and staying. I ultimately decided there was no reason to leave yet, so I turned it down. The vice president told me I was the first person to turn them down, and offered to bump up the offer even more, but in the end, I decided to stick it out at Venafi.

Pinewood Derby

We left Tiffany’s reception and drove all night long to try to get home in time for Tyra’s pinewood derby with the activity days girls and Ethan’s cub scout derby right after. Grandpa had helped them make their cars yesterday after the wedding and before the reception.

Unfortunately we got home too late for Tyra’s, but we were just in time for Ethan’s. Kyle and Ethan put their uniforms on, and Kyle helped put the wheels on Ethan’s car and the two of them went to the church.

The other kids were quite tired and we didn’t have enough time to get them all dressed to all go to the church, so I stayed home with them. I was sad to miss the derby this year, I’ve never missed it before. 🙁 From Kyle’s reports of the race, it sounds like Ethan’s car did a better job this year than it did last year (it actually made it past the finish line every time this year!), and he placed third in the Webelos den. I am REALLY annoyed that they didn’t announce the overall ranking, which means I have no idea how he did compared with the rest of the pack. I feel like if this is going to be a pack activity they should just rank the boys according to how they did compared to the rest of the pack, not just their fellow den members, but that is just my opinion.
