My Birthday

Today is my birthday, and Kyle took the day off from work to spend it with me instead, as he usually does. I told him that for my birthday this year I would like some shelves in the laundry room. We went to Ikea earlier in the week to see if we could find anything there that would suit the purpose, but didn’t find anything that would work for what I wanted to do. So today we went to Home Depot to pick out some shelves. We didn’t like what they had in the shelving area. They just weren’t deep enough. So we went to the lumber area and picked out a piece of wood that was deeper. But it was super expensive so we weren’t super excited about this one either. When we were about to get an employee to cut it down for us, he asked what we are trying to make. We explained that we are making some shelves, and then he took us to another aisle of the lumber department, that had more options for shelves. These we liked better so we put the expensive pieces of wood away. We got the shelving we needed had it cut to size and left.

I also bought myself some vinyl lettering to put up on the wall, but since Kyle worked on the shelves for the better part of the day, we didn’t get it up. I took some before pictures, I’ll have to take more pictures when it is all done.

This is where he is putting up some shelves:

Girl Scout Investiture

We had our Girl Scout investiture at the pavilion at our old stake center. We tried to get there early to get set up, but we didn’t get there as early as I would have liked.

Chloe and Dinah got to recite the Girl Scout law with the group of daisies. Then Chloe, since she is a new daisy this year, got to plant a seed of one of the daisy flower friends.

Tyra got to participate in a short candle ceremony with the juniors. The wind made it impossible to actually light the candles though. The wind also kept knocking the flags over.

Our program was nice and short (I think a couple of the families appreciated that), and our refreshments were provided by the girls. I think the girls really enjoy being responsible for the treats once in awhile, and they like to show off what they brought to all the other girls. We mingled awhile while we ate refreshments. Kyle and I kept picking up the trash and putting it in the van (we should have taken a trash bag with but totally didn’t even think of that).

While I was talking to someone, I noticed Lydia off in the field holding her dress up above her waist as she peed. I had to go tell Kyle about it, and a few others noticed and pointed it out to me like I hadn’t already noticed. We have been working on potty training with her and obviously she needed to go, but there weren’t any bathrooms at the pavilion. So wetting herself meant it was time for our family to go home so we could get her taken care of.

Walking Pneumonia

Last week, on Monday I started coughing, and as the week progressed the coughing got worse and worse. Then Sunday after church, I found that I had a fever. All week I have been dealing with this fever, and the cough, as well as the chills and hot flashes. It has been miserable. Not to mention the fact that being pregnant means that every time I cough I feel like I’m going to pee my pants. Well last two nights have just been the worst. I could not lay down without ending up in a coughing fit. I tried sleeping in the recliner, but that means not sleeping very well at all. Today I had to break down and go into the instacare. There the doctor asked me some questions about the cough and fever. He felt my neck, and listened to my lungs and said that we can’t take x-rays to confirm, because I’m pregnant but it’s “walking pneumonia”. He mentioned that he could hear the yuck in my left lung when I was breathing. So he gave me a prescription for two different antibiotics to take simultaneously. Just what I need to be dealing with at 20 weeks of pregnancy and in the middle of the summer. 🙁

Cabin Trip with my Girl Scouts

This weekend has been CRAZY! Kyle had the annual fathers and sons campout to go to with the boys, and I had my cabin trip with half of my girl scouts. Which meant that we needed to figure out what to do with Chloe, Lydia and Adam. Adam ended up going along with Kyle and the boys. Kyle didn’t really want to take him considering he is still so young (and in diapers), but I knew Adam would be more comfortable with Daddy and his brothers in a tent than at somebody else’s house. For Chloe and Lydia I made arrangements with them to have an overnighter with one of the neighbors. We debated on having a young woman from the neighborhood spend the night at our house with them, but Kyle REALLY didn’t like that idea.

As I got ready to leave yesterday morning, Lydia was super excited about her upcoming adventures for the weekend.

At the cabin we worked on the Flowers badge for the juniors, and so the girls got to go out on a hike to look for and draw some flowers. We didn’t have any special badges for the daisies to work on, but we let them observe and draw flowers too.

One of my co-leaders had access to a solar oven so we brought that along. We had planned on making brownies, or maybe cooking our pizza dinner in it, but when we saw that it wasn’t going to get hot enough for that we decided to make our smores in it (since we can’t have a fire to roast the marshmallows with).

Along with the flowers badge, another of my co-leaders decided to teach the girls how to make flowers out of gum paste. Tyra chose to make a daisy.

I had a “hiking is fun” patch to give to the girls so we actually went on two hikes. The first was up to the water tank. While we were up there, one of my co-leaders wanted to see if the letterbox her daughter left up there was still there. So the girls began hunting for it, and Dinah was the one to find it. That letterbox contained a clue to the location of a second letterbox. Our second hike was down to the beaver dam. Along the way we passed by where the second letterbox was hidden. Again, my co-leader wondered if it was still there, and tried looking for it. But it wasn’t where she and her daughter had left it. Once again, Dinah was the one to find it. Here she is standing next to where it was in the grass. 🙂

The girls had a really good time. From what I heard they didn’t sleep much because they were up all night talking. From the room of the cabin that I slept in, I didn’t hear the girls at all. But I heard one of my co-leaders telling them to be quiet several times through night. Hopefully the boys got some sleep at their campout because I didn’t get much. 🙂
